Happy Belated Birthday to Me!!

My birthday was on Dec 28th, but I didn't get a chance to blog about it at that time, so here is a litte belated birthday blog to me!

My birthday landed on a Sunday but Frank and I agreed we were going to celebrate it on Saturday...or so I thought!! (Sigh) I love Frank, but like your typical male, he is not much of a planner. I had mentioned to him months in advance that for my birthday I wanted to go see Wicked at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. I knew my mom was going to be home by 2:00pm on Saturday, which was perfect so we could leave Cristian with her, drive to LA, have dinner then make it to the 8:00pm show of Wicked.

Well....on Saturday morning I woke up and I started to make breakfast for our 2 1/2 year old son, Cristian, when it dawned on me that today was my birthday celebration. I went back to our bedroom and Frank was still in bed lazily watching television. Somewhat annoyed I said "Ummm...do we have plans for my birthday today? I'm checking so I know what time to start getting things together?" All of a sudden a horror washed over his face and he looked at me with his large eyes bugging out of his head and stammered "Ye-ee-ess, we have plans" as he was frantically trying to untangle himself from the sheets to get out of bed. I gave him the evil stare and said "Did you get the tickets for Wicked?" he quickly said "I will look now!" and he quickly put on some pants and a t-shirt and went downstairs to log on the computer. I was furious!!! Next I said "Ummm...do you at least have a dinner reservation?!?!" He acted like he didn't hear me, but I could see the computer mouse he was using, move around faster as if he thought "Oh crap!" Now normally I am a lady but I couldn't help feel completely disappointed! Not for the fact we didn't have Wicked tickets but that he didn't put any thought or effort into my birthday! So like any princess (hehehe) I threw a tantrum. All of a sudden I became Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! I stomped upstairs and yelled out "Forget it! I am going to stay in bed all day!" and I shut the door and huffed my way to the bed, layed down and pouted.
After awhile Frank came inside the room and apologized because he was unable to find any tickets for Wicked....of course...they were sold out and going for $200 each. He then proceeded to tell me that we had dinner reservations at Ten Asian Oceanfront in Newport Beach, where they serve surf and turf cuisine. I know he was trying to make me feel better, but I was still being bratty and upset!

We made it to our dinner reservation and the dinner followed with some...let's just say annoyances:

Annoyance #1 - When we pulled up into the valet Frank wanted to wear his beanie inside the restaurant. I told him to take it off and that he wasn't going to wear that thing inside. He protested by saying it was cold, but I held my ground and off went the beanie.

The hostess seated us in a beautiful location in the restaurant. We sat in a corner surrounded by windows, overlooking the Newport Harbor, watching the boats with Christmas lights go by. But because I still had a bratty attitude I wasn't allowing myself to enjoy this. Next came annoyance #2...

Annoyance #2 - The waitress exact words when she came over to greet us were "Happy Holidays, let me apologize by letting you know due to the holidays we are out of most of our fish for sushi. We only have Yellowtail and Tuna"

Ok...so fine...we ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll, Garlic Edemmame and Blue Cheese Crostini for our appetizers. After we finished our appetizers, Frank and I decided for our entrees we both wanted to order the Filet Minon with the Blue Cheese butter...how yummy. Now annoyance #3...

Annoyance #3 - The waitress gives her sincere apologies and says "I am so sorry but due to the holidays we are out of the Filet" - oh no!!

Could this night get any worse!! So I reluctantly ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and Frank ordered the Lamb Chops. Surprisingly both were very good! While Frank and I were eating our dinner, we talked about our present and future...the conversation was very touching. The night started to go from "Oy Vey!" to "Oh Right".

Then the night started to make a more excellent turn when one of our waiters took the liberty and ordered for us the chocolate souffle with fudge sauce...this was AAAMMMAZING!! After getting a "happy pep" from our amazing dessert I thanked Frank for a lovely dinner and apologized for being a brat. In that Frank way he gave his version of the evil stare and said "That's ok Eileen...I'm just sorry I couldn't get you what you really wanted." (sigh) Now I really felt bad!

When we got in the car Frank handed me my birthday present which was a $180 Spa gift card to the South Coast Plaza Spa! YIPPEES and then I opened up my birthday card. Now I am going to caution you...what I'm about to write is sappy and completely romantic! (I'm all giddy now!!)
This is not all of it...most of it is for my eyes only! (wooohhhh hooooooo :-))!!

"Eileen, Even though I am a forgetful idiot sometimes, words cannot express the love I have for you. Our love can only be measured in weight because I love you tons and tons. Eileen, I need you more then air itself...I love you"

WWWAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that romantic!!! I cried and cried when I read this!! And through my blubbery tears I kissed Frank and told him I loved him and this was the best birthday ever!!!

Frank if you may be reading this, I love you so much! You are the best partner, companion, friend, lover, and father anybody can ask for! You are the love of my life!

Now...pass the tissues!!!!
