Politics and Fashion!

LAST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Last night was a pretty uneventful night. I knew the last debate was going to be on, so that was the only "exciting" thing on my list. As I was making spaghetti, Cristian was already watching Wow Wow Wubbzy and when he got preoccupied with something I turned the channel in time to the beginning of the debate. I was only going to scan right through it, but it got pretty interesting and I had to keep the channel there. I coaxed Cristian to watch Wow Wow Wubbzy in his room and of course like the angel he agreed! :)

I know we all have different political views. And growing up in a Christian home with Christian morals and upbringing, I have always leaned toward a more conservative point of view. As an adult and living life on my own for the past 15 yrs, my views have changed. I know when it comes to my family and friends I'm not that popular, when I tell them my vote is for Barrack Obama.

I actually like to consider both candidates. When it comes to voting I don't mess around. I read both candidates websites and I read up on all the propositions. Then I decide how will any of these affect me and what will these candidates do for me. I could list alot of reason why I'm voting for Barrack, but here is my main reason:
Health care - I am a HUGE advocate for a universal health care plan. You ask me and I am very passionate about it. Why is this important to me? Two reasons -
  • 1) My mother. My mother is a single woman, who helps me by taking care of my son while I work in the day and then works part time at night at a call answering service. Her employer does not provide health coverage to neither full time or part time employees. And with the little salary she makes, she cannot afford to purchase her own health care coverage. My had to see a doctor because she found lumps in her breast and she was in fear of breast cancer. She tried applying for Medical, but they told her she had to have children. She tried applying for Healthy Families and again she had to have children and according to them she made too much money. She finally found a free clinic in Santa Ana that would take her as long as her working hours were under a minimum of 15-20hrs. I cannot tell you frustrating it was. Thank God my mom is ok and the lumps in her breast are benign cysts, but it had to take a lot of frustration to get my mom medical coverage and attention.
  • 2) Me. Several months ago I was approached by someone here at my job to see if I wanted to take on a new position. The only thing about this new position is it would be a "contractual" position - meaning I would leave the company, but some back as a consultant. It was a good opportunity, but that would mean I would lose all the great benefits I currently have through my employer. That would mean no medical or dental. During the negotiation period of my potential new job, I started looking up affordable health care coverage. I thought of all the things I currently have now and that I benefit from as well as maternity coverage because I wanted to have another baby in the near future. The cheapest coverage I could find was $350 a month and this was an HMO plan. How could I afford this? I currently pay half of that now with my employer.

The debate was really exciting. I have to say this is the most fired up I have seen John McCain in a debate. It was like he was going to pull all the punches because this was the last debate. I thought he was good in the beginning but then he began to get away from the issues and began just attacking Obama. I felt Obama handled it cool and in a professional manner. I felt he explained himself and was not being catty and aggressive, like McCain showed himself.

PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 5 FINALE

Now for the fun stuff!!! Project Runway!!! I love Project Runway and I love to look at all the fashions. I was very very very happy that Leanne and Korto were the last two in the end. Even though I liked some of Kenley's work, she was a major jerk!! Pretty much through out the whole season the judges kept pointing out that she copied alot of other designers work. And last night Nina Garcia said one of Kenley's dresses looked like a dress that Balenciaga did for their Spring 08' Collection. I'm so glad they gave her the boot!!

Balenciaga Kenley's

I LOOOVED both Leanne and Korto. It was a hard decision to make, but in the end I think Leanne deserved to win. She makes the most beautiful esthetic designs. The petals in her design we immaculately tailored. I was up till 11:00pm last night watching the finale! I love fashion!!!

howdy! so glad to see you back and blogging! I loved this post... lots of great info and hello.... Project Runway is definitely worth blogging about!!!!!

one thing...hee hee hee... I actually loved Kenley, attitude and all... even though she may be a copycat... she sure was interesting to watch! ha ha ha... I actually thought Korto had more variety, so I thought for sure she'd have the edge... but hey, what do I know right?! ha ha ha...

Great thought provoking post!

Woohoo! She really is back in the saddle again!

I can see why you would lean towards Obama. You know, I've come to conclusion that this race, everyone will have to vote on what best works for them since both candidates are failing in areas. It's just a matter of what best fits you... I was so frustrated with the debate... couldn't finish it! lol

I kinda wanted Korto to win... but was fine with Leanne since she was my second choice. I loved Kenely in the beginning but her attitude got the best of her. She was downright MEAN!

Now I'm looking forward to Top Chef which is Project Runway but with food instead of fabric!

Yeah, actually loved Kenley at fist also. I LOVED that champagne dress with the hand painting down the front. It was beautiful!!! But she got to be really mean and that was a turn off. And then when she saw that Tim was going to be the guest judge...OMW...I think may have took a little dump! And she even said she should have had a different attitude. She did have good designs, but her attitude stunk like her dump!
